Healthy nonprofit organizations develop a multitude of income streams. overly dependent on one source of funding puts an agency at risk of financial hardship when that source pulls back. In Connecticut, the time is now to diversify. State funding will continue to decrease over the next decade. Private philanthropy must play an even bigger role in meeting the social service needs of Connecticut residents. At the same time, there is a shortage of grant writers and nonprofit development professionals. This course introduces students to the grant writing and fundraising process including appeals to foundations, corporations, and individual donors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop is designed to be interactive in nature. The instructor will encourage dialogue with participants to brainstorm about their specific interests. Participants will be encouraged to talk about real-life successes and challenges in their efforts to gain private funding.
